Abstract
In the four years since SSEA 2022 we have witnessed some dramatic changes in the satellite telecommunications (sat-comms) sector. This paper summarises those changes and the corresponding increasing need for holistic sat-comms industry training. This paper also describes developments in The Sat-Comms Game, which was introduced at SSEA 2022.
In terms of sat-comms sector changes, there are three key points to consider: increased launch cadence and decreasing launch cost, a proliferation of mega-constellations, and new sat-comms models and collaborations. These recent changes have caused shifts in focus, rising concerns, and growing opportunities and challenges.
Despite these significant developments in the sat-comms market, holistic sat-comms industry training is rare. Most sat-comms training focusses on highly technical elements, such as radio frequency and network engineering. While technical training is essential, holistic industry training is needed to empower business understanding in sat-comms organisations and groups, which work with sat-comms. Currently, without this holistic industry training, such organisations are at a disadvantage.
The Sat-Comms Game training has been designed to tackle exactly this problem. First trialled in 2021, The Sat-Comms Game now provides workshops and consultancy and is proving to be highly effective and ever more important for the sat-comms industry.
